ANAGRAN ON LOCKHEED MARTIN TEAM SELECTED FOR $31 MILLION DARPA CONTRACT
Anagran’s FR-1000 Flow Manager to Be Used to Develop New Military Network Protocol to Improve Military Network Security
Sunnyvale, Calif. – January 20, 2009
– Anagran, Inc., the leading provider of high capacity network traffic management products, today announced that Lockheed Martin selected the company’s flow-based traffic management products
to be used in a $31 million Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) contract. The project will serve to protect the security of military networks by developing a new Military Network Protocol.
Under the contract, Lockheed Martin's team will develop new cyber assurance procedures to improve security, dynamic bandwidth allocation, and policy-based prioritization at the individual and unit level. The work includes the development router technologies that offer highly secure verification and self configuration capabilities to improve network protection, reduce the need for trained network personnel, and lower overall life cycle costs for military network management.
Anagran will be developing a Network Controller (NC) based on its current FR-1000 flow management product. The NC will support the new Military Network Protocol (MNP) which will permit users and computers to be strongly authenticated, preventing unauthorized use of the network and controlling user priority. This new network security technology will not only be important for the Military, but for Emergency Services and financial services.
“Security against Cyber-Crime and Cyber-War cannot be left totally to patching computer software,” said Dr. Larry Roberts, Founder and CEO of Anagran. “We must start augmenting the network to assist with security. This first step will help by ensuring that we know who is communicating with us and ensure that no-one can overload the network with un-authenticated traffic.”
Anagran’s current FR-1000 is a high capacity flow management product improves application performance over converged IP networks. By protecting key network traffic from other forms of “invasive,” capacity-hungry applications and eliminating delay jitter, the FR-1000 allows video, voice and other multimedia traffic to sustain required performance levels even during periods of extremely high network activity. It is being deployed at the network edge by ISP’s and universities to ensure that all subscribers receive equal capacity without congestion degradation when the network load approaches capacity.
About Anagran
Anagran was founded by Internet pioneer Dr. Larry Roberts, recognized as one of the founding fathers of the Internet. Anagran’s flow-based traffic management products eliminate the potentially crippling effects of network congestion to enable video, voice, data and wireless traffic to economically scale with flawless quality over converged IP networks. Anagran’s FR-1000 protects all key network traffic by managing end-to-end flows based on their behavior to ensure required quality and performance levels. The FR-1000 dynamically manages all network traffic regardless of application, protocol, or format, without using invasive, performance-limiting deep packet inspection (DPI) techniques. Service providers and enterprises can consistently deliver the highest levels of guaranteed performance and quality while significantly reducing capital equipment and recurring network costs.
